Deodorant Cream: The What, The How, The Why
For the past few years now, there have been concerns about the negative side effects of aluminium, the active ingredient in many conventional deodorants that essentially plugs your sweat ducts and stops sweat from flowing. You might have heard about it. Sounds pretty sweet if you’re a naturally sweaty person. However, some reports suggest that because antiperspirants are applied frequently and on skin near your breasts, it may be absorbed and cause estrogen-like hormonal effects and contribute to the development of breast cancer. Although this hasn’t been officially corroborated there are many other ingredients that are commonly found in conventional deodorants that are equally gnarly such a parabens, sulphates and steareths. In addition to this, there is also something pretty freaky about the idea that you’re physically preventing a natural bodily function from occurring.
I grew up with this mindset drilled into me by my no-make up wearing, birkenstock clad, organic food eating, bra-boycotting, wild-flower growing, natural goddess of a mother who believe it or not, never wore an alternative. But when I hit puberty and wanted to wear halter tops like Rachel Bilson and saw all of my friends spraying their shiny tins of toxic waste around the changing room at school, by God I wanted one too. I did try to use natural deodorants over the next decade or so. In fact I held out hope for every new product that I saw advertised and spend tonnes of money in various health stores only to end up with almost full bottles or sticks or crystals at the back of my bathroom cabinet and a secret supply of Dove Invisible hidden in my handbag, which would usually end up getting applied before coffee time. I came to the conclusion that deodorant was a kind of necessary evil, maybe a little risky to my health but worth it to avoid the embarrassment of forcing my stank upon others or smelling like another natural, albeit illegal, substance. That was all until I discovered and started making deodorant cream.
What’s in it?
Warrior deodorant cream is a blend of organic shea butter, coconut oil, arrowroot powder, baking soda and essential oils or plant extracts that work together to keep you not only daisy fresh but dry. We only use all natural ingredients that will not harm your body in any way. Our skin is not only the largest organ but also the fasted at absorbing whatever we put onto it, so in many aspects applying something to your underarms can be more dangerous that eating it, which is why all our ingredients natural and organic.
How does it work?
The ingredients all work together, with your body not against it as opposed to many other natural deodorants that merely seek to cover odour. With cream, the more you sweat the more the ingredients will activate and the better you will smell. You only need a pea-sized amount which you can apply after showering or as desired and it will last throughout the day. I encourage people to use this as an opportunity to check your underarms/breasts for any tenderness or changes and to work this checking into their daily routine.
But does it actually work?
Everyone's body is different and products definitely work better for some people that others. If you feel like your skin absorbs oil well then go for one of the oil scented formulas like Lavender and Geranium or Rosemary and Cedarwood, but if your skin doesn’t enjoy oil as much, or if you feel like you are especially prone to wet underarms, try the Coconut & Vanilla scent with fresh ground cloves for the added anti-bacterial qualities and dryness. Of everyone that has tried is so far, I still haven’t received a bad review. But if you still aren’t sure, take a gander at some of the testimonials:
“I adore your deodorants. I’ve tried just about every natural deodorant in the health food shop and yours are by far the most effective and beautiful smelling I’ve found! I was so disappointed when I got pregnant and realised that I couldn’t use my fav deodorant anymore because of the essential oils. I can’t tell you how relieved and excited I was to find that you make a pregnancy-safe deodorant from ground cloves and Madagascar vanilla. It’s beautiful, gentle and it works like magic. Your creations are just amazing and I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!” With thanks, Kait Husmann
“I have tried many different natural deodorants and none of them worked, until I tried the Warrior deodorant cream. It is really easy to use, smells fantastic, and it is made with beautiful natural ingredients that care for my body. I am delighted to have found a natural deodorant that actually works, no matter what I'm doing!” Sarah Forristal
“I have extremely sensitive skin and cannot tolerate harsh chemical products. Reidin’s beautiful products are the perfect solution – not only are they safe and gentle, they actually work, whereas normal natural deodorants wear off easily. The scents and branding are attractive and combine to present a wonderful product I’ll be using for years.” Ella Chamis
“Warrior deodorant is genuinely a fantastic product. I’ve been using it daily for the past three weeks. You need only apply it once in the morning and it literally lasts all day long, even if you are working or exercising. You need only apply a small amount so you get a lot of use out of one tub. One of the best things about it is that is doesn’t leave a single mark on your clothing, even on a tight, white t-shirt! It is also incredibly pleasant smelling, there’s no overpowering chemical-like fragrance that comes with many other products I’ve used in the past. Warrior deodorant is definitely going to be my staple deodorant from now on.” Molly Pegler
“Being able to trust a product you rub into your skin daily is important! Warrior looks and smells great, is good for you and actually works! Unlike all of the other natural deodorants that I have tried.” Mindy Simpson
“As a woman who has always been particularly sweat-prone, I’ve used strong anti-perspirants since puberty and even they didn’t work all the time for me. I don’t even want to think about what all that aluminium has done to my body! I can’t even cycle to work without getting wet underarms and my clothing choices have always been considerably limited because of the likelihood that I’ll get sweat patches during the day. I’d only ever tried a natural deodorant once before (because my mum made me) and I promptly threw it away the next day it was so ineffective.
I tried this deodorant after reading the reviews, and it did not disappoint! While I still get damp underarms, it’s considerably less extreme than it used to be using anti-perspirants and I don’t get smelly. It’s very kind to my skin, even when it’s sensitive after shaving. And extra bonus: no more yellow stains on white t shirts!” Katie Gonser
